Carruthers joins Wycombe

Wycombe have raided Northampton to sign Chris Carruthers on a free transfer.

Wycombe Wanderers have raided Northampton Town to sign Chris Carruthers on a free transfer.

Carruthers has accepted a two-year contract with Wycombe after slipping down the pecking order at The Sixfields Stadium.

He spent the closing part of last season on loan at Bristol Rovers after making just three appearances during the campaign for Northampton.

The left back came through the ranks with The Cobblers but has now been allowed to leave the club for nothing.

The 21-year-old had 12 months remaining on his contract with Colin Calderwood's side but the Northampton boss has not put any barriers in the way of Carruthers' exit.

During his Cobblers career, Carruthers made 89 appearances for the League Two side with his only goal for the club coming, ironically, against Wycombe in April 2002.
