Clough feels loan move will benefit keeper

Derby County have allowed goalkeeper Stephen Bywater to join Cardiff City on loan for the rest of the season. Bywater has missed Derby's last two games due to a muscle injury, but is likely to have lost his place to recent loan signing Frank Fielding in any case. Therefore, Rams boss Nigel Clough has given the go-ahead for Bywater to link up with promotion-chasing Cardiff, who have been enduring a keeper crisis. "This deal makes sense for us and Stephen, and we have protected ourselves with the 24-hour recall clause," Clough told the club's official website. "Frank has the shirt at the moment and it's better for Stephen to go and play games, rather than sit on our bench "Obviously our interests are paramount and we wouldn't have agreed to this if we didn't feel it benefited ourselves, as well as the player." Cardiff also signed Jason Brown from Blackburn Rovers in midweek and he will vie with Bywater to start against Ipswich Town on Saturday, with Tom Heaton and David Marshall injured.
