Vaughan`s injury scare

CREWE ALEXANDRA teenager David Vaughan must visit a specialist to determine the extent of a knee injury which could sideline him for several weeks.

Vaughan is feared to have torn the cartilage in his knee and may face a prolonged period out of action.

The 19-year-old, who is comfortable playing anywhere along the left-hand side, has been a model of consistency during the early stages of Crewe's Second Division campaign.

But the Welshman's prospects of making a positive contribution to The Railwaymen's plans for a swift return to Division One may be hampered by the injury.

Manager Dario Gradi has already ruled Vaughan out of Tuesday's League clash against Wycombe and is uncertain as to when the youngster will be available for selection again.

"David is due to see the specialist about his knee but at the moment we don't know how bad it is going to be," said Gradi.

"He's either nipped the cartilage or torn it, we don't know yet."
