Former Wigan and Tottenham defender Pascal Chimbonda believes he still has the hunger and desire required to play in England.
The 33-year-old played for Doncaster last season and is now out of contract after his deal at the Keepmoat Stadium expired last month.
However, the summer break has yet to yield a new club for the former France international, but he is refusing to be disheartened and insists he will be ready should a club come calling
"Most clubs are back in pre-season now and having been a professional for so long, it always feels good to be part of a team," he told
Sky Sports.
"It's difficult as a player without a team but I have to keep myself fit. I'm doing my pre-season on my own and going to the gym twice a day.
"I have a personal trainer to help get me in shape because I want to prove to people that I'm still good enough to do the business when my chance comes."
Chimbonda helped Wigan to a 10th place finish and the Carling Cup final in their maiden campaign in the Premier League.
He was a part of France's 2006 World Cup squad and believes he still possesses the ability that will allow him to flourish at the top level.
Evergreen veterans like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and David Beckham are proving that players can go on late into their 30s and it is a feat Chimbonda hopes to emulate.
"I'm lucky in the fact that I've never really had a serious injury," he added. "When I see players Beckham and Giggs still playing well, it inspires you.
"I'm still hungry and have the same ambitions as those guys to play football. I achieved a dream when I came to England to play for Wigan because everyone wants to play in England.
"But I now have new targets and goals and believe I still have a lot to offer the game."
