Ipswich boss Paul Jewell has set his sights on signing a top striker after seeing bids for Billy Sharp and James Coppinger rejected by Doncaster.
Jewell is determined to recruit a proven goalscorer ahead of next season as he looks to build a squad capable of pushing for promotion from the Championship.
The manager has turned his attention to other targets after the club's attempted swoop for the Rovers duo fell through.
"We made what we felt was a fair offer for the two players. Doncaster turned it down. That's their prerogative," Jewell told the club's
official website.
"We feel they have the qualities that will add something to the squad we have here but they are just two of a number of transfer targets we have.
"We're talking to other clubs and we will see what develops from there.
"I want a goalscorer or two who will do anything to score a goal. I don't think we have that devilment, that type of player who will kick his granny to score a goal."
New deal
Meanwhile, young Ipswich defender Jack Ainsley has penned a new deal to keep him at Portman Road for at least another six months.
The 20-year-old made his league debut for the Tractor Boys on the opening day of the season in a 3-1 victory against Middlesbrough and also featured in the Carling Cup first-round tie at Exeter.
Ainsley said: "The manager has said that it's down to me to get my head down and show him I am worth a longer contract and that's what I've got to do."
The full-back has also spent time on loan at Rushden & Diamonds in 2009 and Histon in November.
He is joined by Conor Hourihane in signing a six-month contract, while Tom Eastman has also been offered a short-term deal.
