O'Driscoll confirms striker blow

Sean O'Driscoll has confirmed top scorer Paul Heffernan will be out for at least a month.

Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll has confirmed top scorer Paul Heffernan will be out for at least a month.

Heffernan damaged an ankle early on against Port Vale and underwent a scan on Monday to ascertain the severity of the blow.

O'Driscoll now believes the 25-year-old will be out for weeks, rather than the short-term loss they had hoped for.

"He's our top goalscorer so it's a massive blow," O'Driscoll told skysports.com.

"He's had his scan done today and it looks as though it will be weeks rather than days."

The striker joins Jason Price on the sidelines and O'Driscoll has bemoaned the timing of Heffernan's absence.

"With Jason suspended it means we have our two top goalscorers out at a crucial part of the season," he added.

"It gives other people an opportunity, and possibly players who have been an important part of the squad a way into the starting line-up.

"At the end of the day, it's a contact game and there's not a lot you can do about injuries."
