Stalemate at Tranmere

Tranmere missed the opportunity to make ground in the League One promotion race.

Tranmere missed the opportunity to make ground in the League One promotion race as they could only draw 1-1 with Bradford City.

Ronnie Moore's side remain in fifth place after another contest in which they took the lead but were unable to keep hold of it, as Steven Schumacher earned his side a share of the spoils in cancelling out Gareth Taylor's opener.

On a blustery Friday night at Prenton Park Tranmere started strongly and were rewarded in only the ninth minute, when Taylor finished smartly from a right wing delivery.

Their lead would not, though, last until half-time for on 36 minutes Bradford were level when Schumacher etched his name on the scoresheet, with a low finish after the impressive Jermaine Johnson had rolled the ball into his path.

In the second period both sides had opportunities to steal a maximum haul, with Tranmere denied a penalty when John Mullin went down in the box, but there was to be no more scoring in an entertaining contest given the conditions.
