League Two Round-Up

Wycombe remain unbeaten whilst Grimsby lost pace on the League Two leaders.

Wycombe Wanderers ensured their unbeaten record could stretch into 2006, whilst Grimsby Town allowed them to open up a four point lead at the top of League Two.

The Chairboys had little difficulty in overcoming Rochdale 3-0, as the visitors were reduced to nine men before 70 minutes.

John Gorman's men took an early lead through Tommy Mooney (9), and the striker (pictured) doubled his tally eight minutes after half time.

The home side were given a helping hand when both Warren Goodhind (57) and Grant Holt (69) were dismissed, and Charlie Griffin rounded off proceedings with five minutes to go.

Grimsby, however, passed up the chance to keep pace with the leaders, as they lost 1-0 at home to Bristol Rovers.

Chris Carruthers was the hero for the visitors, as they climbed into the top half thanks to his 80th minute strike.

Leyton Orient remain three points behind Russell Slade's side, as Simon Whaley gave Bury a 1-0 victory at Brisbane Road with a 54th-minute goal.

Orient's slip up allowed Carlisle United to join them in joint third place, as they rescued a point with a late strike in a 1-1 draw at Peterborough United.

The home side took the lead through Danny Crow on 56 minutes, but former Leeds United and Sunderland man Michael Bridges showed his class to draw Carlisle level with just ten minutes remaining.

Northampton Town clambered into the play-off positions thanks to a 1-0 win at Barnet, as Scott McGleish maintained his composure to score from the spot three minutes after half time.

Colin Calderwood's men nudged Wrexham into eighth, as the Welsh outfit rescued a draw against Notts County deep into injury time.

The Magpies had seemingly stolen all three points when Jake Sheridan (84) netted late on at The Racecourse Ground, although Robbie Foy pounced with 93 minutes on the clock to cap a late finale.

At the other end of the table, bottom side Torquay United made ground on their rivals with an eventful 3-3 draw at home to Oxford United.

The U's had raced into an early 3-1 lead within 20 minutes, as Eric Sabin (5, 19) and a penalty from Lee Bradbury (17) sandwiched Adam Lockwood's strike on seven minutes.

However, Torquay star Kevin Hill then came to the fore, as his brace (27, 73) rescued a point for Leroy Rosenior's men.

Second from bottom Stockport County were condemned to their eighth defeat of the season, as they crashed 3-0 at home to Darlington.

Carlos Logan (37), Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu (84) and Akpo Sodje (86) did they damage, as Darlington climbed to 14th in the table.

Rushden & Diamonds' woes also continued, as they lost 2-1 at home to Mansfield Town.

The visitors opened up a two-goal lead through Simon Brown (19) and Giles Coke (50), and Rushden claimed a consolation strike from John Dempster (57).

The victory for Mansfield dragged Macclesfield Town into the bottom four, as they squandered a two-goal lead in the final five minutes to draw 2-2 with Cheltenham Town.

Macclesfield had opened up a seemingly impregnable lead through Kevin Sandwith (58) and Jonathan Parkin (71), but they failed at the last, as Kayode Odejayi (85) and Gavin Caines (90) claimed an unlikely point to delight the Whaddon Road crowd.

Lincoln City produced a shock result, as they saw off Chester City 3-2, despite going down to ten men.

Keith Curle's men took the lead through Marcus Richardson (49) and their chances were enhanced when Dean Keates was dismissed for violent conduct just before the hour mark.

However, the deficit of players proved to inspire The Imps, as Richard Logan (68), a Paul Mayo penalty (70) and Derek Asamoah (94) gave them an unlikely victory.

Shrewsbury Town remain in mid-table after a 1-1 draw with Boston United at Gay Meadow, as an early strike from Richard Hope (2) was cancelled out by Noel Whelan (89).

The visitors also had Simon Rusk dismissed on 66 minutes for a second bookable offence.
