Stam commits to Latics

Stefan Stam has committed himself to Oldham for a further season.

Oldham have been boosted by the news Stefan Stam has committed himself to the club for a further season.

The Dutch defender's previous deal had been set to expire on Friday but after productive talks with manager John Sheridan, he has elected to remain in the North West.

Stam has proved to be a popular figure since moving to England in 2005 but has often seen excellent performances offset by a succession of injuries.

Sheridan, though, remains a firm admirer, telling the club's official website: "Obviously I'm very pleased to welcome Stefan back to Boundary Park.

"He was excellent at the heart of the defence last season and is a valued member of the squad."
