Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston plans more involvement with first-team

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston says he plans to be more involved with the first-team but will not stop manager Jose Riga from doing his job.

Riga was appointed as Tangerines boss last week and faces a job of rebuilding a squad that struggled to find any form after a strong start to last season - eventually finishing two points clear of relegation.

Oyston has no intention of interfering with the new boss' work, but does want to commit more time to knowing exactly what the manager is planning.

He told the Blackpool Gazette: "I have absolutely no intention of picking the team or deciding who we sign. But I will be keeping a closer eye on how things are going generally.

“I’ll be having regular meetings with the manager and staff to make sure I give them the proper support.

“Jose will identify targets and we’ll try to get the deals done jointly. It’s important he sees the players himself, talks to them to sees their values.”
