Lincoln land Torpey

Lincoln City have snapped up Scunthorpe striker Steve Torpey on a free transfer.

Lincoln City have snapped up Scunthorpe striker Steve Torpey on a free transfer.

The 36-year-old was out of contract at Glanford Park and has been allowed to leave the Championship outfit.

He has now sealed a one-year deal at Sincil Bank.

"I'm delighted that Steve has agreed to join us and he'll be coming here to supplement our experienced forward line," said Lincoln director of football John Deehan.

"Mark Stallard and Jamie Forrester both had their most prolific seasons in terms of games played for a number of years last season so I've got confidence in the training techniques used by John Schofield and Michael Wait so Steve's age doesn't concern me.

"I'm looking forward to seeing him get games under his belt whilst at the same time I'll be keen for him to work closely with the young strikers we've got at the club, as he did with the kids when he was at Scunthorpe.

"The likes of Paul Hayes, Andy Keogh and Billy Sharp don't become good players on their own and the fact that Steve helped them through is another reason why I'm bringing him here."
