Sharp focus on Iron

Billy Sharp is refusing to let speculation about a potential move affect him.

Billy Sharp is refusing to let speculation about a potential move to the Premiership affect his current efforts to fire Scunthorpe to the Championship.

The 20-year-old striker has been the key protagonist in Scunthorpe's promotion bid this season, with his 26 goals instrumental in helping them to the top of the League One table.

His goalscoring exploits, Sharp also scored 24 times last season, have not gone unnoticed from further up the football pyramid, with Liverpool the latest club to be linked with the former Sheffield United front-man.

While conceding he is flattered to have his name linked with clubs of such obvious stature Sharp is not, though, getting carried away with the glowing plaudits currently being lavished upon him.

"It's all very flattering, especially when one of the stories involved Liverpool, but they're just rumours," said Sharp.

"I've got a big job to do here at Scunthorpe. We've been top of the league for three months now, but there's still some work to do and if I can keep scoring my goals here and we maintain our form we could do it.

"My dream is to one day play for Sheffield United. They're my team. It wasn't meant to be when I was there as a kid, but for now I'm more than happy here and my contract takes me to the end of next season."
