Sparrow struck down

Scunthorpe United have lost midfielder Matthew Sparrow to a severe knee sprain.

Scunthorpe United have lost midfielder Matthew Sparrow for at least six weeks with a severe knee sprain.

The former Glanford Park trainee suffered the sprain to his medial knee ligament in the win over Carlisle United.

The 23-year-old will require surgery, but will need around six weeks of rehabilitation before returning to action for The Iron.

New Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins will be pleased that Sparrow is not out for a longer period of time, with the League One high-flyers hosting Blackpool on Friday evening.
