Laws eyeing MacLean loan

SCUNTHORPE UNITED manager Brian Laws is keen to bring in Rangers striker Steven MacLean on a loan basis.

The 21-year-old hit-man is some way off making a Gers senior appearance and boss Alex McLeish is keen for the youngster to gain experience.

Laws has ruled out brining in the forward on a permanent basis, but is confident of agreeing a loan deal.

MacLean has already been in Yorkshire showing off his skills, after undergoing a trial with Barnsley earlier this month.

"Steven is tipped to have a really bright future. There is no question of him joining us on a permanent basis," said Laws to the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph.

"But Alex McLeish might be willing to let him out on loan to get experience of playing first-team football."

MacLean did his chances of securing a move the world of good after making a scoring debut in Saturday's 3-3 pre-season draw with Nottingham Forest.

The Rangers man entered the match after half-time and set up one goal for Wayne Graves and also scored himself on 68 minutes.
