Iron attempt Hughes coup

SCUNTHORPE UNITED boss Brian Laws has admitted attempting to bring Wales manager Mark Hughes to Glanford Park.

The 38-year-old has been released by Blackburn but is keen to keep playing and Laws hopes he will do so at Scunthorpe.

"I've been on a management training course with Mark Hughes and it was interesting to talk to him, he explained he was surprised that he was released by Blackburn and that he is looking to keep playing," Laws told the official Scunthorpe website.

"We had a general chat to see whether he would come to Scunthorpe United because I think he would be fantastic for the club.

"He didn't say no which is bonus and I will see him again at another management course next week and hopefully manipulate him into saying yes.

"He is a striker that would be good for the club even at 38."
