Team of the week

Rob Green - Queens Park Rangers
Queens Park Rangers were expected to go well upon their return to the Championship, with Harry Redknapp boasting Premier League experience aplenty, and the Loftus Road outfit have not disappointed. They have collected 23 points from nine fixtures, allowing them to sit joint-top of the table. Their success has been built on the meanest of back fours, with Green and co securing a seventh straight clean sheet in the league during a 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough on Saturday.
Scot Bennett - Exeter City
There are plenty of strikers who would like to boast a record of three goals scored seven games into the new season, never mind defenders. Bennett has, however, moved onto that mark after netting twice against Fleetwood on Saturday. A deadly three-minute double saw the Grecians hit back after falling behind to take the spoils - with Bennett's first seeing him pop up in the box to drill low into the bottom corner, before going on to bundle home a second at the back post.
Adam Barrett - Gillingham
Gillingham proved to be far too strong for Crewe over the weekend, as they eased to a comprehensive 3-0 success. Club captain Barrett was among the goals for the first time this season, as he wrapped up the win 20 minutes from time. Barrett smashed home from close range to ensure that there would be no late wobble from the Gills and they would collect their first League One victory of the season at the ninth attempt.
Jack Hobbs - Nottingham Forest
Netting the winner in a fierce local derby is one sure-fire way of endearing yourself to the followers of new employers. Hobbs has already offered enough during his short time at Nottingham Forest to suggest he will be a shrewd investment, and his bullet header against Derby County on Saturday can be considered something of a bonus. Hobbs was left all alone inside the box to meet a pinpoint corner delivery and claim what proved to be the only goal of the game.
Ismail Yakubu - Newport County
Yakubu is a defender with a keen eye for goal, and he showed that again on Saturday as he converted in Newport's 2-1 victory over Torquay. The Nigerian-born centre-half rose highest to meet a Robbie Willmott free-kick and nod home the opener. The effort was Yakubu's first of the season, but there is the promise of plenty more to come from a man whose Football League know-how has helped Newport to settle quickly back in the fourth tier.
David Murphy - Birmingham City
Murphy formed part of a Birmingham side which failed to keep Reading at bay on Saturday, but bounced back in style as the Blues ran Millwall ragged on Tuesday. Lee Clark saw his side collect just their second clean sheet of the season in midweek, as they put four past the hapless Lions. Murphy, rather surprisingly, proved to the star of the show as he opened his account for the season with a first-half double - including a spectacular free-kick.
Craig Bryson - Derby County
With Derby trailing 4-1 heading into the half-time interval of their home date with Ipswich on Tuesday, you got the impression that the writing was on the wall for the Rams. New boss Steve McClaren delivered an inspirational team talk during the break, though, and Derby emerged a different animal. Bryson offered them a lifeline within two minutes of the re-start and was in the right place at the right time to drill in the most dramatic of levellers two minutes from time.
Danny Guthrie - Reading
Guthrie is only one goal short of equalling his best return for a league campaign, and the season is only two months old. The all-action midfielder added another two to his tally on Saturday to help Reading past Birmingham. His first had a slice of luck about it, as a free-kick floated into the box was allowed to nestle in the corner of the net. There was nothing fortunate about his second, though, as he crashed a second set-piece home off the inside of the post.
Lewis Montrose - York City
York finally returned to winning ways over the weekend as they collected their first three-point haul since the opening day. They picked the perfect weekend to return to form, as Portsmouth rolled into town. Pompey were sent packing with their tail between their legs as they slumped to a 4-2 defeat. Montrose helped to edge York back in front after the scores had been briefly levelled, and the Minstermen never looked back as they surged over the line.
Sam Vokes - Burnley
It has taken Vokes the best part of six years to recapture the promise he displayed during his early days at Bournemouth, but the confidence is flowing again and the Wales international is a striker bang in form at present. He has already plundered seven goals in the Championship this season, with three of those coming in the space of four productive days. First, Vokes bagged a brace as Burnley kept their fine run going with a 3-0 win over Charlton, before helping them to the top of the table in midweek with a spot-kick in a 2-0 victory over Doncaster.
Jordan Rhodes - Blackburn Rovers
Only two men can better Vokes' second-tier goal return, and it comes as no surprise to find that Rhodes is one of them. The prolific frontman continues to provide the attacking spark for Blackburn and you have to wonder where they would be without him. Rhodes, like Vokes, found the target three times in two outings this week - with Bournemouth the first to fall victim to his predatory instincts, as he bagged a brace in a 3-1 win, before much-fancied Watford were cut down to size on Tuesday by a solitary header at Ewood Park.
