Runaway League One leaders Bristol City continued their promotion push with a 2-1 victory at Crawley where Luke Ayling’s late header keeps them 10 points clear of second placed Preston.

After a dreadful first 45 minutes, Aden Flint headed City in front shortly after the break nodding home Ayling’s assist from close range.

But Crawley hit back on the hour mark with a rising shot from Anthony Wordsworth.

However, Ayling’s glancing header on 84 sealed the three points and a 10th away victory this season.

Preston also won away thanks to two goals in the space of four second half minutes against MK Dons who had kicked off just a single point behind the Lilywhites.

Callum Robinson raced clear to open the scoring in Milton Keynes with a low strike on 66, with Joe Garner heading the second from Paul Gallagher's cross.

The result allowed Swindon to move third in the table with a 3-0 victory over 10-man Notts County.

John Swift curled the Robins ahead on 58 before Andy Williams netted from the penalty spot six minutes later after the scorer had been fouled by keeper Roy Carroll.

County's Liam Noble was sent off after collecting a second yellow card on 85, with Harry Toffolo tapping home the third from close range on 89.

At Bramall Lane, three first half goals saw mid-table Fleetwood shock play-off candidates Sheffield United 2-1.

Town opened a two-goal lead with a brace of excellent strikes. First, Josh Morris smashed the ball into the top left-hand corner on 25, before Nick Haughton fired home from long range 10 minutes later.

But the Blades were back in it within four minutes thanks to Matt Done’s close range header but United were unable to find an equaliser after the break.

There was a five-goal thriller at the Ricoh Arena where Port Vale edged fellow midlands club Coventry 3-2.

Jim O’Brien netted the first League One goal of the afternoon with a low strike from long range to give the hosts the lead in the fourth minute.

However, Vale responded with a brace of goals in the space of four minutes shortly before the break.

First, Tom Pope netted from inside the six-yard box before Mark Marshall made it 2-1 for the visitors when he located the bottom left-hand corner from 12 yards on 44.

Substitute Sanmi Odelusi made it two apiece only for Michael O'Connor to win it for Vale with a 76th minute free-kick.

Bottom of the table Yeovil came from behind to beat Oldham 2-1 in Somerset.

Carl Winchester opened the scoring for the Latics with a left-foot strike two minutes before half-time.

However, the hosts levelled matters through Joel Grant on 55 and deservedly so after creating by far the greater number of chances.

James Hayter poked home the winner from close in the 92nd minute after the visitors had had Brian Wilson sent-off for collecting a second yellow card on 79.

Rochdale claimed three points in a 2-1 victory over lowly Colchester at Spotland.

Rhys Bennett headed home from close range in the sixth minute after Colchester had failed to clear a Rochdale corner.

Ian Henderson volleyed the second on 55 before Chris Porter pulled a goal back from the penalty spot following a foul by Michael Rose just after the hour mark.

At Barnlsey, George Waring scored twice for the in-form hosts who cruised to a 3-0 win over Walsall to boost their promotion hopes.

Crewe beat Scunthorpe 2-0 with two goals in the space of 90 seconds early in the second half through Greg Leigh and Marcus Haber.

Jon Taylor netted the only goal at London Road when his long range strike into the top left-hand corner of the net enabled Peterborough to beat a rejuvenated Leyton Orient.

However, Posh ended the contest with 10 men when Marcus Maddison collected a red card for a foul on Luke O'Neill in second half injury time.

In the day’s other match at the Priestfield Stadium, Gillingham and Doncaster drew 1-1.

Harry Forrester’s rising free-kick gave the visitors a 40th minute lead, with John Marquis heading the Gills level four minutes later from Doug Loft’s cross.
