Midfielder could be out for six months once he has knee surgery

Oldham Athletic midfielder Andy Holdsworth could face six months on the sidelines due to a knee injury. The summer signing from Huddersfield has patella tendonitis, a knee injury which forced him to miss a month earlier in the season. He underwent a process called dry needling a month ago in an attempt to prevent surgery, but the pain has returned to the knee and going under the knife is now the only option. Holdsworth will be sidelined for between two and six months depending on the damage to the tendons. Unfortunately for Holdsworth and the Latics, the surgeons will not be able to assess the seriousness of the damage until after the surgery. The 25-year-old has made 15 appearances so far for Dave Penney's side after joining on a two-year contract from League One rivals Huddersfield.
