Midfielder is out of contract in the summer

Tranmere are poised to open talks with highly-rated midfielder Charlie Barnett over a new deal, skysports.com understands. Barnett has enjoyed a fine season to date for Rovers and has been instrumental in their push for a place in the play-offs. The former Liverpool youth ace is out of contract in the summer and Rovers could face losing the skilful midfielder to another club if they do not tie him down to a new deal. The 20-year-old left Anfield last season as he searched for the opportunity of breaking into first-team football and he has established himself as a key member of Ronnie Moore's starting XI. Barnett, who has netted three goals in his last 13 games, has been earning rave reviews and his performances have not gone unnoticed with a number of Championship and League One sides keeping tabs on his situation at Prenton Park. Rovers are now ready to sit down and hold talks with Barnett as they look to tie him down to a new long-term contract to ward off interest from other clubs.
