Captain targets promotion at Darlington Arena

Darlington captain Steve Foster has rejected reports that he could be set to leave the League Two promotion hopefuls. Foster is a vital member of Quakers boss Dave Penney's squad but had seen his name linked with League One outfit Huddersfield in recent days. The experienced centre-back, who moved to the Darlington Arena from Scunthorpe in the summer of 2007, insists he is only focused on helping Penney's men secure a top-three finish. Foster told the Northern Echo: "The gaffer has just told me there's a rumour going around, but obviously there's nothing in it. "My mam rang me the other day and told me there's also rumour that I'm going to Mansfield. There's always rumours knocking about but there's definitely nothing happening. "I've got another 18 months to go on my deal here, I'm captain and I enjoy that position. I came here to try and get the club into the next division and that's still the intention."

Hatch

Meanwhile, striker Liam Hatch has returned to Peterborough with the London Road outfit inviting bids for the powerful forward, who is attracting interest from several clubs. Hatch became an immediate favourite during his loan spell with Darlington and the club had hoped to extend his stay for the remainder of the season. Quakers boss Penney has not given up hope of Hatch returning to the North East and expects to know more by the end of the week. "The loan has been agreed but it hasn't been signed," said Penney. "We agreed a deal, verbally, but knew any permanent deal would supersede a loan. He's always been available for transfer, but nobody put any bids in until last week. "We're in a position to take him on loan again and if nobody agrees a fee, or if Hatch can't agree personal terms with a new club then, touch wood, he'll be back with us. "We'll know by the end of the week whether Hatch is going to be with us for the rest of the season or whether he is going to be moving on to another club."
