No permanent deal for full-back

Sheffield United have told John Halls that he will not be offered the chance of a permanent move to Bramall Lane. The 26-year-old defender spent time on loan with The Blades last season and is now out of contract with Reading. Halls was tipped to return to United, but manager Kevin Blackwell has opted against making a move. "I have made the decision because I don't think we will be short of cover in that area," Blackwell told the club's official website. "We have Derek Geary, Kyle Naughton, and one or two other academy products in the pipeline. "If you have an academy you would hope to get one or two through to the first team, and Kyle did so well in his loan spell over the border [with Gretna] last term, I would really like to take a look at him."
