Walker set for a speedy recovery

Port Vale's Richard Walker has been told that he will not need surgery on his problematic knees. The 26-year-old defender is relieved that he can avoid on operation, which would have sidelined him for three months. Walker has been suffering with tendonitis in both knees for 10 months but a specialist revealed that surgery is not necessary.

Frustrating

"The problem, which has been predominantly in my right knee, has been very frustrating," said Walker. "I have felt like I was getting somewhere, only for it to flare up. "I am going to have to stay put of proper training again and go back to basics," he added. "It is difficult to put a timescale on it, but I should be back in a fraction of the three months or more it would have taken after surgery. The main thing is making sure I am 100 per cent."
