Akinfenwa deal collapses

Adebayo Akinfenwa's proposed move to Swindon has fallen through.

Adebayo Akinfenwa's proposed move to Swindon has fallen through after the striker failed a medical.

Akinfenwa had agreed a one-year contract at the County Ground, but manager Paul Sturrock has pulled the plug after learning that the former Swansea man would not be fit until November at the earliest.

"We are all disappointed, but after taking the advice of the specialists and doctors, we felt this was the correct decision to take," Sturrock told the club's official website.

"The finances come into it because we would have taken him on a year's contract, when he may not have been fit until November or later.

"I will continue my search for new players and strikers are very much at the forefront of my enquiries."

Akinfenwa, 25, made 75 appearances for Swansea, scoring 21 goals.
