Hatters keep hold of duo

Ahmet Brkovic and Steve Robinson have both signed new deals at Luton Town.

Luton Town have announced that midfield duo Ahmet Brkovic and Steve Robinson have both signed new deals at Kenilworth Road.

Securing the immediate future of the two stars is a key piece of business for The Hatters after seeing Carlos Edwards depart for Sunderland and Rowan Vine linked with a host of Championship rivals.

Luton also lost key men Steve Howard and Kevin Nicholls in the summer but manager Mike Newell has ensured that he will be keeping hold of two first team players.

Croatian winger Brkovic has signed on until 2008 whilst Northern Ireland midfielder Robinson (pictured) will stay in Bedfordshire until 2009.

After seeing the pair commit to The Hatters, Newell has now urged other players at Kenilworth Road to follow suit.

"We are delighted both players have committed their futures with us," Newell told the club's official website.

"They are key players and it was important that we got their contracts finalised.

"We hope that other players will follow and commit their futures with us soon.''

Winger Dean Morgan is out of contract in the summer and has been the subject of a bid from Leeds United, whilst influential defender Markus Heikkinen also sees his current deal expire in June.

Meanwhile, former Luton Town striker Liam George returned to the club and appeared in the reserves this week.

The former Stevenage Borough, Bury, Boston United and York City hit-man recently had a spell in America with United Soccer Leagues First Division club Atlanta Silverbacks.
