Luton: Edwards won't leave

Brian Stein is confident Carlos Edwards will not be leaving Luton Town in January.

Brian Stein is confident Carlos Edwards will not be leaving Luton Town in January.

The winger has been linked with several clubs, with Watford having had a bid turned down during the summer.

Scottish champions Celtic are also rumoured to be keen on the Trinidad & Tobago international, who has a further 18 months to run on his contract.

But assistant manager Stein sees no reason why Luton would have to cash in on the former Wrexham ace in the New Year.

Citing the high-profile players who have moved on from Kenilworth Road in the past year or so, Stein insists Edwards will not be joining that list.

"Carlos will not leave in January because we can't afford to lose our best players," said Stein.

"If you look at the recent run we've had, you will see we can't afford to do that.

"We've lost three top players - Curtis Davies, Steve Howard and Kevin Nicholls - since [August 2005] and we don't need to lose another."

Luton have lost eight of their last nine Championship matches, although Edwards was on target in the recent win over high-flying Preston.
