Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins expects Kevan Hurst, Ian Morris and Joe Murphy to sign new contracts.

Hurst, Morris and Murphy indicate desire to stay at Glanford Park

Scunthorpe United manager Nigel Adkins is confident Kevan Hurst, Ian Morris and Joe Murphy will sign new contracts. The trio's deals are due to expire, but they have been offered terms to stay at Glanford Park following promotion to the Championship. And, with the players due to return for pre-season training on Wednesday, Adkins expects to be able to resolve the future of goalkeeper Murphy and midfield pair Hurst and Morris. "There has been plenty of private negotiation going on," Adkins told the club's official website. "The people with us who are out of contract are Joe Murphy, Kevan Hurst and Ian Morris, who have all expressed a desire to stay with the football club. "We've been negotiating all summer and all being well those issues will be resolved this week - all three have said they want to stay." Adkins is also looking to add to his squad and aims to bring in a centre-back in addition to pursuing his interest in Crewe Alexandra midfielder Michael O'Connor. He added: "We also need to strengthen in certain areas too. I've made it perfectly clear that I want to bring a centre-back into the building. "I don't know how our interest in Crewe's Michael O'Connor has been leaked, but there is a long way to go with that one."
