Barrett set for comeback

Adam Barrett hopes to play for Southend reserves next week after last month's surgery.

Adam Barrett is expected to make his first appearance for Southend reserves next week since undergoing a double hernia operation.

The 27-year-old centre-back had the surgery last month after an injury-hit season and is now nearing a return to first-team training.

The former Bristol Rovers man has already ruled himself out of an appearance in the reserve clash against Luton on Tuesday, and his lack of fitness will also keep him out of the first-team game at Hull on Saturday.

However, he is eager to play a part in the reserve game against Oxford the following Tuesday as he looks to build up his match fitness.
