Bury battle back for point

BURY cemented their place in the Division Three play-off positions with a gritty 1-1 home draw with Kidderminster.

The Harriers led for long periods of the game through a Bo Henriksen penalty, but Jon Newby (pictured) earned a point for The Shakers with a low drive in the final 15 minutes.

Henriksen was felled in the box by Danny Swailes shortly after half-time and he kept his cool to slot the ball home.

Bury had a number of chances to snatch a leveller, Newby hit a post following good work from Andy Preece, while George Clegg shot wide from the edge of the box.

Newby did though atone for his earlier miss when finding a leveller with a low shot from the edge of the area.

David Nugent almost stole all the points for Bury, but Stuart Brock made a fine diving save.

Scunthorpe came from a goal behind to secure a 2-1 win at Southend.

Leon Cort headed home a Kevin Maher corner on 29 minutes to give The Shrimpers the lead.

Scunthorpe missed an earlier penalty, Andrew Dawson lashed wide after Tesfaye Bramble had handled in the area, but they fought back bravely in the second-half.

Martin Carruthers executed a perfect lob with 15 minutes remaining to level the scores against his former club and Steve Torpey stole the points with a header in the final ten minutes.
