Leyton Orient's Sean Thornton will serve a four-match suspension after the club's appeal of wrong dismissal was rejected by the Football Association.
The midfielder was given a straight red card during Saturday's 1-1 draw against Leeds United.
Referee Nigel Miller dismissed Thornton after he allegedly punched Leeds winger Seb Carole.
The O's appealed against the decision but The FA have upheld the ban and the 24-year-old will now miss the games against Port Vale, Doncaster, Oldham and Swindon.
Orient boss Martin Ling spoke of his disappointment at the ban, but admits it is best to move on and focus on Saturday's game against Port Vale.
"We're very disappointed that the appeal has been rejected because we felt we had a very good case," he told the club's official website.
"The referee's report said that Sean punched Seb Carole and we didn't think that decryption matched the incident.
"But we'll have to take the news on the chin, put the Leeds game to bed and now focus our minds on Port Vale this Saturday."
The offence of violent conduct carries a mandatory three-match ban and Thornton will have to sit out an extra game on top as it was his second red card of the season.
