Whites trialists on show

Leeds are giving a number of trialists the chance to shine against Shelbourne.

Leeds United are giving a number of trialists the chance to shine in a friendly against Irish side Shelbourne on Saturday.

Despite the immense uncertainty surrounding the West Yorkshire side's long-term future, manager Dennis Wise is ploughing on as normal.

Alan Thompson, Matt Heath and Rui Marques give a familiar look to United's squad, although there are a number of fresh faces.

Free agents Paul Boertien, David Prutton, Leon Constantine, Graham Coughlan, Curtis Weston and Jamie Mullan are all hoping to impress.

Boertien and Coughlan are both experienced defenders, Prutton has 25 England Under 21 caps while Constantine scored 32 goals during his time with Port Vale.

Assistant manager Gus Poyet is keen for everyone to have an intense run-out in order for Leeds' management team to assess their abilities.

"They have to show the manager they want to do well and play for this club," he told the club's official website.

"We want to play every single player only 45 minutes and when you play for 45 you can give it the maximum from the first minute."
