Rovers' fail in fresh Becks move

Tranmere Rovers have been turned down in a fresh loan move for Jermaine Beckford.

Tranmere Rovers have revealed they have been turned down in a fresh loan move for Leeds United's Jermaine Beckford.

Ronnie Moore made a late move for the striker when he joined Carlisle, but the former Wealdstone man opted to join the Cumbrians.

Beckford is now back at Leeds and with Tranmere's Calvin Zola on the sidelines, the club attempted to bring him to Prenton Park.

However, Leeds' new boss Dennis Wise is keen to run the rule of Beckford and will not sanction a loan until he establishes his worth to the team.

"I tried for Beckford but they want to have a little look at him so that one is on hold at the minute," explained Moore.

"He was on the bench at the weekend so I don't know what the situation will be.

"He (Leeds chief executive Gwyn Williams) just said that Wisey wants to have a look at him and for us to try in a fortnight.

"But in that time Zola might be fit again and we might not need him. It changes all the time. We are looking and the good thing is the chairman's backing us."
