Bafana Bafana to fight for Radebe

SOUTH AFRICA have revealed that they will seek Fifa intervention in order to force Leeds United to release Lucas Radebe for international duty.

Bafana Bafana have been angered by Leeds boss Terry Venables` decision to keep the player at Elland Road.

The former England boss feels the defender`s brittle knees will not support an exhausting trip to the continent for an African Cup of Nations clash with Ivory Coast, and then back to play in The Premiership.

This has angered the South Africans, with administrative manager Stanley Tshabalala revealing: "We have written to Fifa to force both Leeds and Udinese to allow the two players to travel.

"We will not back down on these two players."

Radebe, 33, has been joined by Udinese`s Siyabonga Nomvete in not being allowed to travel, and it remains to be seen what action Fifa take as they have taken a dim view of such decisions in the past.

The Leeds man has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons, but made the World Cup and started this term in fine form for his club.
