Ricketts out for six weeks

Hull full back Sam Ricketts faces six weeks on the sidelines after breaking his cheekbone.

Hull City full back Sam Ricketts faces six weeks on the sidelines after breaking his cheekbone.

The Wales international suffered the injury during Hull City's Carling Cup second round tie with Hartlepool United on Tuesday evening.

Ricketts was hurt in the second period of extra time, but was able to finish the match, which Hull won on penalties.

However, the 24-year-old is now likely to be out for six weeks after Tigers boss Phil Parkinson confirmed the defender's injury.

"Sam has broken his cheekbone during extra time," Parkinson told the club's official website.

"That is a blow for us because he has done well since he has been here and we now need to give him time to get that right.

"He will be out for a while and the club doctor has told me he thinks it will be six weeks.

"It is a blow, but that is the price you sometimes pay in these cup games."

Ricketts has made 10 appearances for Hull since joining from Swansea City in the summer, but it may be November before he is back in action.
