Rovers hope Roberts remains

League One side Tranmere Rovers are hoping to keep hold of Gareth Roberts this summer.

Tranmere Rovers chairman Lorraine Rogers remains hopeful that Gareth Roberts will stay at Prenton Park beyond this season.

The 28-year-old Wales international left back is out of contract in the summer and was the subject of a £50,000 rejected bid from Championship side Hull during the January transfer window.

While the player's representatives have told Rovers that Roberts is set to move on in the summer, Rogers admits that Tranmere are desperate to keep hold of the former Liverpool trainee.

"Gareth has been with us for just over six years and is 100 percent professional and reliable, as well as being extremely popular," Rogers said.

"Gareth and his advisors told us last month that he would like to move onto a fresh challenge in the summer.

"They have been very fair and decent in telling us this in the January transfer window so that we could take it into account when we received an offer from Hull.

"Although Gareth and his advisors have been very open and honest about his intentions, we are nevertheless still trying to persuade him to stay.

"We respect his desire to take on a new challenge and play at a higher level, but we hope that he feels settled, happy and at home at Tranmere."

Roberts has made over 300 appearances for Rovers during his six years at the club.
