Andy Ritchie was unhappy Hull City's second goal stood as Barnsley keeper Nick Colgan was left with a broken nose.
Jon Parkin put The Tigers 2-0 ahead inside the opening 10 minutes at The KC Stadium before Barnsley rallied to prevail 3-2.
Though The Tykes collected the points, Ritchie was miffed that Parkin's second effort was allowed to stand after a tangle with Colgan.
"It's left him with a broken nose, but at least it's straight now and he should be fit for the weekend," said Ritchie.
"But there's no way the goal should have stood.
"However, the response from the players was terrific, but we need to realise that we can't go two goals down before we start playing."
Hull boss Phil Parkinson felt Michael McIndoe's goal just before half time proved decisive, with Marc Richards and Paul Hayes netting in the second half.
Parkinson was hurting after his side let the two-goal lead slip and admits that his players must improve defensively.
"We couldn't have got off to a much better start, but getting that goal on the stroke of half time gave Barnsley a psychological lift," said Parkinson.
"We didn't respond the way we should have done in the second half and we've come away with nothing.
"We started off by doing the simple things well, but when we went 2-0 up we stopped doing that.
"I've got to say that, defensively, even though we went 2-0 up, I was never comfortable.
"It's about getting that balance between attacking and defending, because throughout the 90 minutes we weren't as disciplined as we should have been.
"It's never nice as a manager to get beaten, but when you're 2-0 up it hurts even more."
