Nigel Pearson admitted his disappointment as Leicester extended their winless run to five games against West Brom, but chose to focus on the positives after the defeat.

Pearson's men are now without a win since beating Manchester United 5-3 on September 21, with today's defeat their first on home soil this season.

The Foxes never truly recovered from the hammer blow of Esteban Cambiasso's unlucky own goal at the start of the second half, and now languish just one point and one place above the relegation zone.

Asked on how he felt about the game, Pearson believed his side were more solid than recently, but bemoaned their recent poor fortune.

"It's not going our way at the moment to be perfectly honest, is it?" said Pearson to Sky Sports.

"It was going to be something of that nature to break the deadlock.

"The positives today are that we were a lot more solid. We didn't create too much, but it was important to have a bit more solidity. I have to look back at the game and rue the fact that we didn't make enough of situations.

"Ultimately, when something like that happens to settle the game it's quite harsh on our players.

"That's the nature of it, it's how it's going at the moment for us.

"We don't have to get too wrapped up in the negativity that I feel some people want to throw in our direction.

A run of five games without a win after a promising opening round of fixtures has seen the positive vibes from the King Power Stadium die down, with the Sky Bet Championship champions now facing a relegation battle.

Pearson was quick to dispel any negativity within the side however, and remained focused on the positives.

"It's a big ask for us, but I know that we're very capable. When you have setbacks in life in particular you've got to make sure that you look at what is actually going on.

"We're not doing an awful lot wrong at the moment, we're not making enough of our own positive situations, and unfortunately things just aren't going our way.

"We feel that we've got a lot of quality in the squad; that's in all positions. If we want to put different systems together we have options in midfield, options out wide that we didn't utilise today.

"When players come into the side who are probably more offensive players they've got to give us the other side of the game. We don't feel that we've had that in recent weeks, hence our decision to go with what we did.

"We looked more solid but ultimately games at this particular level are normally won or lost with fine margins.

"Today we were slightly unlucky."

Many have pointed to a lack of Premier League experience in the Leicester side as a potential reason for their struggles, and while Pearson admitted his recent frustrations, he was keen to downplay any issues and instead backed his side to recover within their next games.

"We're ten games in. I'm not looking for any sort of excuse. We've had some really good highs so far, we've had some lows and we've had days like today, which I wouldn't really call a low, but a frustrating experience.

"We've come up against a side that are well organised but haven't caused too many problems. In the first half they looked a little more dangerous than they did in the second, yet they've scored the winner early on in the second half from what looked like an innocuous situation.

"These are the things we have to deal with. There's nothing new there. We are the same group of players that have pulled out some good performances and good results and that will turn around again.

"In the meantime, whenever you get people asking questions about how things are and whether you've got the quality, the only way you can answer those is by continuing to put together performances that give you a chance.

"We had a chance today, we didn't last week. It didn't quite go our way, so we'll move on.
