TAYLOR COMPLETES LEWIS SIGNING

LEICESTER CITY boss Peter Taylor is delighted to have signed Junior Lewis on a permanent contract - after fending off interest from other clubs for the former Gillingham star.

Taylor has expressed his delight at the manner in which Lewis has adapted to football at the higher level since arriving on an extended loan from The Gills, and gone some way to easing the impact of Neil Lennon's sale to Celtic.

"We've missed Neil Lennon, the way that he kept the ball for us, the way that he was patient and the way that he broke up the attacks of the opposition," Taylor admitted to the Leicester City official site.

"But Junior, even though he looks nothing like Neil, has done that job since coming to Filbert Street on loan.

"He's kept the ball for us and made a lot of important headers, he's stopped the opposing team setting up attacks and done really, really well for us.

"I'm very pleased and also surprised just how well he has done.

"He's got an opportunity late on in his career to play in The Premiership and it looks like he intends to take it.

"Junior will be in the side at Manchester United without a doubt.

"We've got injuries to Muzzy and Robbie but even if those two were 100 percent fit Junior would have been back in the team given the way that he has played since he arrived here.

"We've signed Junior on a three-and-a-half-year contract with the fee being £150,000 if he plays a lot of matches.

"I'm delighted with the deal and to have kept him because at one point other clubs were getting involved and I feared I might lose him."

One club that was linked in some quarters for a cheeky swoop for Lewis was West Ham United, but it appears that this speculation was wide of the mark - with Irons boss Harry Redknapp stating: "I don't know where that story has come from."

Lewis was also delighted to complete the move and continue his longstanding relationship with Taylor, saying: "I've played under Peter Taylor at three different football clubs - Dover Athletic, Gillingham and now Leicester City.

"Mr Taylor came here at the beginning of the season and then seven months later he gave me the call and said he'd like me to come to Filbert Street on loan.

"I arrived at Filbert Street on a Tuesday and was immediately travelling with the first-team as they headed south to play Southampton.

"Things moved a bit fast but to be honest I wasn't bothered by that.

"The morning of the Southampton match Mr Taylor took me to one side and said 'I'm going to play you tonight'.

"He knows me inside out, he knows just what I can and cannot do."
