Rio Ferdinand returns from suspension this weekend and Harry Redknapp hopes to have the defender available for QPR's game with Leicester.

QPR manager Harry Redknapp says his side 'need a result' when they take on Leicester City at Loftus Road this Saturday.

Despite a recent return to form, Rangers have slipped to the bottom of the Premier League after fellow strugglers Burnley picked up six points from victories over Hull City and Stoke.

Leicester, who are two points above QPR in 18th place, beat the Londoners 1-0 in the corresponding fixture last December - with the teams lying second and third in the Sky Bet Championship - and Redknapp expects a similarly stiff test this weekend.

“We were in the same league as them last year and they were a good team," he said. "Nigel Pearson has done a great job with them and they are a good team but we are at home and it’s a game we need to win.

Best side

“I am expecting a tough game, they are a good side. They were by far and away the best side in the Championship last year, they won the Championship quite comfortably."

And Redknapp is convinced the battle to avoid the drop will remain tight throughout the campaign, claiming as many as eight teams could find themselves drawn into a relegation scrap.

“It’s very close at the bottom still, Burnley had two great results, and two wins, so it’s lifted them," he added. "There are still seven or eight teams who are going to be down there, so it is all to play for.

“It will be all the same teams scrapping for places down at the bottom, but we’re ok. I feel like we’re playing well, we just need a result now."
