Midfielder heading to Loftus Road as part of Barton deal

Marseille and Cameroon midfielder Stephane Mbia claims to be on his way to Queens Park Rangers. Sky Sports sources earlier in August revealed the 26-year-old could move to Loftus Road as part of the deal which sees Joey Barton on the brink of a free transfer to France. And with Marseille understood to be keen to cut their wage bill, Mbia has announced he has opted to join QPR after snubbing Turkish giants Fenerbahce. He told Le Parisien: "I choose to go to QPR, despite the late interest of Fenerbahce. I want to join one of the best leagues in the world. I am excited." Barton was on Thursday lunchtime undergoing the second part of his medical at Marseille and was expected to complete his free transfer to the French club later in the day. The midfielder is currently serving a 12-game suspension as a result of his sending-off and violent conduct against former club Manchester City on the final day of last season. He has been stripped of the QPR captaincy and remains without a squad number, while he spent pre-season with Football League new boys Fleetwood Town. Barton has three years left on his QPR contract and had most recently been training with the club's youngsters.
