Warnock keen to do business early in January

Neil Warnock has refused to be drawn on reports linking Queens Park Rangers with a move for Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic as he looks to do his business early in the January transfer window. Jelavic is thought to have attracted considerable interest with his performances in the SPL this season and QPR are one of the clubs to have been connected with the Croatian. Gers manager Ally McCoist says there have been no bids for Jelavic at this stage and Warnock does not want to fuel speculation about any player. Warnock is aware of the transfer talk, but just intends to carry on working hard behind the scenes to strengthen his squad in a professional manner. He would love to get any new recruits on board quickly so that QPR can focus on trying to climb the Premier League table.

No speculating

"I just read the papers about the players I am looking at," Warnock said at a news conference ahead of Saturday's match against Arsenal. "I keep smiling. "You will just have to wait until something happens and then I will tell you. "But I won't be speculating about bids or players. "I am sure you will be giving me names every time we have a press conference between now and the end of January." Asked again whether Jelavic was a target, he retorted: "I won't be commenting on him or anybody else in the transfer window. "That is how it is and I will try and get my targets as early as I can, if possible."
