McDermott happy to win chase for Rotherham striker

Reading have confirmed the signing of striker Adam Le Fondre on a three-year contract from Rotherham United for an undisclosed fee. Skysports.com revealed on Friday evening that Reading were set to win the chase for Le Fondre, who was in the final year of his contract at Rotherham. Fellow Championship side Coventry City, along with Sheffield Wednesday, had seen bids rejected for Le Fondre, with the Millers rumoured to want £350,000 up front. Rotherham have now allowed Le Fondre to make the step up from League Two and Royals boss Brian McDermott is happy to have landed the 24-year-old.

Belief

McDermott said: "His goal record is excellent, he's played a lot of games and from speaking to him I can tell he has a real belief in himself. "For us, we are building the squad back together after the summer and with three signings it's been a good week." McDermott has already landed Kaspars Gorkss from QPR and Joseph Mills from Southampton in the last six days. Director of football Nick Hammond added, "We're delighted to have completed this signing, he has a terrific goalscoring record and in terms of style Alfie is different to the other strikers we have at the club. "He is also a bubbly character and will be good for the dressing room. This is of course a big step up from League Two and the challenge to him now is to make that step."
