Adam Virgo's late goal earned Brighton their first point of the season.

Adam Virgo's late goal earned Brighton their first point of the season after a 1-1 draw with Coventry at the Withdean Stadium.

Coventry looked to be heading for all three points when Stephen Hughes fired them on 69 minutes until Virgo blasted home a free kick late on.

Brighton started brightly and Scott Shearer was called into action to keep out Darren Currie's header.

Graham Barrett had Coventry's first chance of the game on 20 minutes, but his shot was comfortably held by Brighton keeper Michael Kuipers.

Albert Jarrett forced Shearer into another fine save soon after with a header before Kuipers kept out Gary McSheffrey's close-range effort.

Hughes broke the deadlock on 69 minutes with a sweet long-range strike with his first goal for his new club.

Kuipers kept Brighton in the game with a fine double save to keep out Louis Carey's fierce shot and the Bjarni Gudjonsson's follow-up.

Brighton grabbed an unlikely point a minute from time with Virgo drilling a free kick from 30 yards past Shearer.
