Black confident of Yazid stay

Coventry City caretaker boss Eric Black is confident that Algerian midfielder Yazid Mansouri will remain at the club instead of playing in the African Cup of Nations.

Algeria have requested the services of Mansouri for the tournament to be held in January and February, but Black is hoping he will remain at Highfield Road.

Mansouri has formed a midfield partnership with Youssef Safri, who is definitely leaving to represent Morocco at the same tournament.

The Sky Blues do not want to lose both men and are hopeful that Mansouri will decide to remain and cement his place in the Division One side.

Black says that Mansouri has said that he would like to remain at the club and believes he will stay.

"The situation has not changed enormously," said Black.

"Yaz is still saying that he wants to stay here. There's not a major concern there and we believe Yazid will be with us.

"As the year has progressed Algeria are very keen to have him in the squad. We are speaking to Yaz and we're sure he will stay with us during the African Nations Cup which is vital with Safri definitely leaving.

"The cup has enormous profile for African players and Yaz perhaps hasn't featured as much as he would have liked.

"All these circumstances come together at this point but I'm convinced he will stay and be part of the team going forward.

"We're working very hard to resolve it quickly and I think there are just small bits that need to be clarified."
