Mike Phelan is the odds-on favourite (1/3) to succeed Neil Adams as permanent manager of Norwich, according to Football League sponsor Sky Bet.
Adams resigned from the role on Monday and is expected to return to club in a different capacity in the summer, leaving the door open for first-team coach Phelan to assume the manager’s position.
The former Manchester United assistant manager has been linked with multiple managerial vacancies since leaving Old Trafford upon Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
He joined the Canaries set-up in November 2014 and the club have confirmed he will take charge until a final decision on Adams’ successor is made.
Sky Bet understands Phelan is in pole position, with his main contender being Tim Sherwood at a distant 8/1, while Ian Culverhouse (12/1) and Karl Robinson (14/1) are also outsiders.
Sky Bet's Chris Spicer said: "We've taken a conservative approach to the vacancy and we haven't seen too much money on it as yet, with Phelan being a short favourite.
"All signs point to him getting the job permanently and we'll pay out on bets if he lasts 10 games in charge. He's got a difficult first game though - Norwich are 13/5 to win at Bournemouth on Saturday."
