Wigan keeper joins on loan after Fulop recalled

Stoke City have signed Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Carlo Nash on loan after Marton Fulop was recalled by Sunderland. Fulop had only joined Stoke last Friday, but an injury to Darren Ward prompted his return to the Stadium of Light. Potters boss Tony Pulis has moved swiftly to bring in a replacement by agreeing a deal for Nash, which could stretch until the end of the season. Nash will be in the squad to face former club Preston North End on Tuesday evening and Pulis is happy with the arrangement.

Good competition

"We're delighted to get a keeper of his experience at such short notice," Pulis told The Sentinel. "I must thank Steve Bruce at Wigan for helping us out on this one. Carlo has been in our kind of situation in the past and will provide good competition in a vital area of the team. "I've been impressed with him for a long time and he should play an important part in the dressing room." Nash has yet to make a first-team appearance for Wigan since originally linking up with the Premier League club on loan 12 months ago.
