Sunderland winger moves to Deepdale on loan

Preston have clinched the signing of Sunderland winger Ross Wallace on a season-long loan deal. The 23-year-old was transfer listed by Black Cats boss Roy Keane in January and then suffered a knee injury which sidelined him for over three months. However, he turned down a permanent move to Preston earlier in the summer and looked set to stay at the Stadium of Light. Wallace has now decided to move to Deepdale on a temporary basis, although a fee has already been agreed between the clubs for a possible transfer, if things go well. There is also a clause in the deal which would see the former Celtic winger return to Sunderland at the end of December if either he or the Black Cats desire. Wallace is focusing on Preston and feels confident Alan Irvine's men can challenge for promotion. He told the club's official website: "It's good to be here, it took a few days to sort but the manager wanted me here more than anyone else so I'm delighted to play and hopefully and I'll be able to play a few games. "There is no reason why this club can't be in the Premier League and that's what I am here to do."
