Ipswich have announced a pre-tax loss of £7.2m for the year to June 2014, ensuring they will avoid any Financial Fair Play sanctions.

Town have come in £800,000 under the limit for allowed losses in 2013-14, a fall of £2.6million on the previous year.

But the Sky Bet Championship side's overall debt did rise by £3.6m to £86m, which is almost entirely owed to owner Marcus Evans.

The publicity-shy businessman, who bought a majority shareholding at Portman Road in 2007, provided an extra £3.8million of loans for ongoing funding and player investment.

Ipswich's turnover was down from £13.84m to £13.55m, but there was a saving in wages, which fell from £15m to £13.9m, while gate receipts were down.

The figures do not take into account the sale of Aaron Cresswell to West Ham - which was reported to be around £2million - in the summer.

Boss Mick McCarthy has guided them to second in the table ahead of Saturday's trip to Bolton.
