Striker returns to Portman Road for second loan spell

Daryl Murphy has joined Ipswich on a season-long loan from Celtic, having slipped down the pecking order at Parkhead. The striker will officially finalise the switch on Thursday morning, before linking up with his new team-mates. The Republic of Ireland international will be in contention to make his debut in Town's Championship fixture with Leeds on Saturday. He will need no introduction to how things are done at Portman Road, having taken in a loan spell with Ipswich during his days at Sunderland. Murphy notched six goals for the club back in 2009/10 and admits he is happy to be back in familiar surroundings.

No-brainer

He told Ipswich's official website: "It came out of the blue really, I had a call from my agent to say Ipswich were interested and it was a no-brainer for me really. "I know the club and the area from my time here before. Some of the lads that were at the club then are still here and I know Michael Chopra from our time at Sunderland. "I'm looking forward to playing for the club again and we will see how it goes from there. "If I do well and the manager wants to extend my stay beyond the year then I certainly would be interested, but for now all I want is to concentrate on playing games."
