But Ipswich boss delighted with impressive opener

Ipswich boss Paul Jewell has pleaded with his players not to read too much into their impressive 3-0 opening win at Bristol City. The Tractor Boys cruised at Ashton Gate, with two goals from new signing Michael Chopra and Lee Martin on the opening day of the Championship season. Whilst Jewell could not hide his delight with the result, he delivered a complacency reminder to his victorious players. "It was a good start but we don't want to get carried away as there is a long arduous season ahead of us," Jewell told the club's official website. "I thought we started well and we were on top for the first 20 minutes.

Opener

"Then we scored the goal, it has been a trait of ours that we've gone on the back foot after scoring and they came back into the game but once we got the second and third goals the game was over. "It was good to keep a clean sheet and I'm pleased with the effort of everyone since we've come back but we know we've got a long way to go yet." And Jewell singled out new £1.5million debutant Chopra for praise: "He's a constant threat and took his goals really well. "It was a terrific ball from Mark Kennedy for the first one but Chops is the type of player that can turn even ordinary passes over the top into decent ones." Meanwhile, City manager Keith Millen lamented the manner in which his side conceded three goals and admitted the opening day was not too early for harsh words to be said.

'Not acceptable'

"Things had to be said because that's not acceptable, we had that soft side to us," he told the club's official website. "When you look at Ipswich's goals, one pass for each of them and that's too easy for teams to score against us, we've been there before and it is only one game and it's important that we bounce back on Tuesday. "But it certainly isn't the start we were looking for." He added: "We were in on Sunday, win or lose. We'll analyse the game, we know where we went wrong - the goals. Quite simply we gave bad goals away. "Also the amount of times we had possession in their final third, we've got to be scoring and the final ball or the finish wasn't quite there."
