Seagulls sign Frenchman

Brighton & Hove Albion have signed Alexis Bertin from French club Le Havre.

Brighton & Hove Albion have signed midfielder Alexis Bertin from French club Le Havre.

The 26-year-old arrives at the League One club on a contract until the end of the season.

Bertin had a pre-season trial with Championship side Ipswich Town, but he has opted to experience English football with the League One side.

"I am happy to sign for Brighton and I want to help the team develop," the midfielder told Brighton's official website.

"I think my style of play will suit the English game more - in France, the referee always blows his whistle when I make tackles!

"I always wanted to play in England because of the fighting spirit and the bigger crowds.

"You have more supporters in England than in France."

Bertin is joined at The Withdean Stadium by Ipswich striker Dean Bowditch, who returns for a fresh month's loan with Brighton.

Bowditch made four appearances for the South Coast club before a groin injury ended his time with Brighton in the autumn.
